Why order bumps are free on Yoink
Every creator-storefront platform agrees on one thing: order bumps and one-click upsells are the most valuable features in the product. You can tell, because they all put them on the most expensive plan. Stan Store prices them at $99/month. We put them on the free plan. Here’s the reasoning, because it’s a real decision and not a promo.
The features work hardest for the smallest creators
A bump is a one-tap add-on at checkout; an upsell is a one-click offer after payment. Together they typically lift average order value 20–30%. Now ask: who needs a 25% raise more — the creator doing $10,000/month, or the one doing $200?
For the big creator, the bump is a bonus. For the small one, it’s the difference between “this is a hobby that pays for coffee” and “this might be real.” The feature’s marginal value is highest exactly where the paywall excludes it. That’s backwards.
The economics only look scary until you do them
The obvious objection: giving away the premium feature costs revenue. But walk the math. We take 3% on the free plan. A bump that lifts a creator’s order value 25% lifts our 3% by the same 25% — the feature pays for itself in the fee. Paywalling it would protect a $99 price point by making our free users earn less, which makes us earn less, which is a strange thing to protect.
Aligned pricing is the whole company in one sentence
A monthly bill before your first sale means the platform earns whether you do or not. A percentage means the platform’s revenue is a mirror of creators’ revenue — we grow only if the people on the free plan grow. And when they’re ready for 0% fees, Pro is $5/month, an early price locked for life while Yoink is new. Moving off the fee onto the flat plan isn’t a loss for us; it’s the success case.
What this looks like in the product
- Bumps and upsells are first-class steps in product creation, not buried settings.
- The analytics screen shows “what your boosters earned” as a headline number — if the free features are making you money, you should see exactly how much.
- Payouts go straight to your bank through Stripe. No wallet, no cash-out fee — the money alignment applies there too.
